Professional Profile
Mathiew’s main areas of practice are Shipping and Admiralty law. Prior to his admission as an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore, he served onboard ocean going container vessels and petroleum tankers operated by Neptune Shipmanagement Services Pte. Ltd. (Singapore) as a Deck Officer. Mathiew has extensive experience in “wet” work. He continues to carry out investigations involving different types of maritime casualties such as groundings, sinkings, collisions, loss of cargo and accidents resulting in personal injuries to crew on a regular basis.

Mathiew also assists and advises clients on commercial transactions which have a maritime flavour such as sale and purchase of vessels, marine assets and maritime businesses. He frequently advises on agreements involving marine assets and offshore services relating to offshore construction work including Joint Venture Agreements and Consortium Agreements. Mathiew has represented Shipyards, Buyers and Owners in relation to the drafting of Shipbuilding Contracts. He has also represented parties in disputes arising from Shipbuilding Contracts.

Mathiew also advises insurers and assureds in relation to their rights and obligations under most types of Marine Insurance policies.

Mathiew continues to represent his clients as counsel in court and before arbitration tribunals.
