Professional Profile
Gerard regularly acts for a variety of shipping and commercial interests and high net-worth individuals in matters before the Singapore Court of Appeal, High Court and State Courts, and in arbitrations under the auspices of the SIAC, SCMA and LMAA. He also represents and assists clients in mediations.

Among his contentious matters, Gerard acted as Lead Counsel for clients in a trial before the State Courts and succeeded in recovering sums owed to his clients. As Lead Counsel, Gerard has also successfully defended clients in the Singapore High Court at first instance and on appeal, in an application to strike out his clients’ claim, and succeeded in setting aside a statutory demand against his client.

For Gerard’s non-contentious matters, he routinely advises clients on a broad range of issues from employment matters, shareholders agreements, sale and purchase of maritime assets and general contractual and commercial transactions.

Apart from shipping and commercial matters, Gerard also regularly acts for several Management Corporations Strata Title in contentious and non-contentious matters.

Gerard takes a collaborative approach to finding solutions for his clients and understands the importance of getting to know the ins and outs of his clients’ businesses in order to cater to his clients’ unique needs.

Outside of practice, Gerard enjoys reading political history, current affairs and collecting Chinese artefacts and antiques.
