Shipping & Admiralty
No squares, we are all-rounders in shipping.
We are equally at home arguing a contentious shipping dispute or representing our clients in a transaction or closing.
We handle all areas of shipping work including:
- Cargo claims
- Charterparty and bills of lading disputes
- Collisions, casualties and salvage
- Enforcements and arrest
- Marine Insurance
- Shipbuilding, conversion and repair contracts
- Ship finance, ship sale and purchase
- Sale and purchase of goods carried by air, sea or land
We handle all aspects of ‘wet’ work ranging from ship collisions, salvage and other marine casualties. Prior to admission to his admission to the Bar, our Mathiew Rajoo served onboard container vessels and petroleum tankers as a Deck Officer for almost a decade. Mathiew has investigated numerous ship collisions, injuries and missing persons at sea, assisted owners and P&I Clubs in the drafting of salvage contracts and implementation of salvage operations. Drawing on his shipboard experience, Mathiew value adds to the legal services and advice provided to clients.
We also regularly advise and act as counsel in cargo claims, charterparty disputes, claims arising from bill of lading disputes, bunker disputes, claims for unpaid supplies, etc.
We are familiar with shipbuilding and have acted for both shipyards and buyers on shipbuilding and vessel conversion contracts ranging from tugs and barges to common commercial vessel such as container vessels, tankers, dry bulk vessels and fishing vessels and vessels and structures in the offshore industry such as oil rigs, semi-submersibles and offshore support vessels.
On the non-contentious front, we assist, advise and represent clients in ship sale and purchase transactions. We have also acted for banks/lenders as well as borrowers in ship financing transactions, working with international ship registries and their correspondents to provide clients a complete S&P service.
Our cross-experience in contentious and non-contentious shipping work gives us a distinctive edge as we assist clients with their transactions or when advising them in litigation. We have advised our clients in connection with their investments, business expansions, joint ventures and acquisitions in their shipping business. We have also assisted clients in recovering their investments or in mitigating losses. We use our unique expertise to benefit our clients.
